Even for those entrepreneurs and businesses which may prefer other mediums, such as text and podcasts, video cannot be ignored. That is why a video script template is key.

As internet connection and devices improve, expect video to only become more commonplace and expected. There is a good chance it will become the default method of communicating soon.

As a business or startup founder, there are many uses for video, including:

Follow this easily adaptable recipe for deciding what to say, in what order for recording your own videos.

The Introduction

Start with your greeting. “Hello,” “Hi,” or something similar is fine depending on the environment and target market. 

Introduce yourself. “This is __(First Name)__, __(Job Title)___ at __(Company Name)___.”


Move right into the What. What is this all about? Ask yourself before taking it further with the video script template.

If you have a strong tagline and short elevator pitch, this is a great place to use it. 

Since we mentioned pitching here, keep in mind that in fundraising storytelling is everything. Thiel was the first angel investor in Facebook with a $500K check that turned into more than $1 billion in cash.

Get right to the point. For example; “We are helping people like you save 10x on __(your product)__ and enabling them to get it done 10x faster.”


Briefly explain why they need this. Or why so many others need this. This is best in either a short storytelling format or 1 to 5 bullet points.

Give them an example they can relate to. There is a big urgent problem they are facing or have seen. Something needs to be done about it to prevent current or future stress.

Convey the pain of their situation in a way that resonates with them.

The Solution

Explain your awesome solution to this problem. This is a critical aspect of this video script template.

In most cases, you want to avoid being overly complicated. Unless this is truly designed to be a technical video for a very technical audience, you want to convey what it does in no more than 3 bullet points.

Otherwise being too technical and complicated will lose most people’s interest. Even if those details are interesting and important to you. 

In most cases, you also want to leave a little mystery there and some unanswered questions, so that they reach out and contact you. Use this specifically if you want to get them on the phone or start an email or chat dialogue. However, you want this to be an automated sale, then you may proactively answer your top FAQs, or follow up with an FAQ video.

You already know your target market and personas. Use this section to list the most common 2-5 types of users, and use cases. 

“This is for you if… you are A, B, or C.” Bullet points work great if you are speaking over slides too. 

Why Us

Why should they choose you for this product or solution? This is the differentiator factor of this video script template.

There are two parts to this. One is your USP. What makes you different from everyone else? What is your competitive advantage and top feature?

The second part is establishing and conveying credibility. What experience and recognition do you have that makes you capable, trustworthy, and reliable?

Why Now

In order to get viewers and listeners to take action, this can’t just be nice to have. It has to be an urgent must. 

In one to two sentences explain why now is the optimal and most important time for them to take action.

The Offer

Briefly recap your script. The what, why, who, and why now. Then make a special offer. This should be limited time or limited quantity offer.

The Call To Action

Make a clear and specific call to action. For example; “click the buy button below.” Make it simple, easy, and immediate for them to take the next step while you have them engaged and moving through your flow.
