The Ultimate Guide To Pitch Decks

Here is the content that we will cover in this post. Let’s get started.

Pitching Investors

Whether you are just starting out with your startup business idea or are on your Series C funding round, you need a strong and effective investor pitch template to piggyback on.

Laying out your pitch and flow first will help you in turn create your pitch deck and slides, and a video pitch deck if you choose to use one.

This investor pitch template can be used for text and videos for crowdfunding campaign pages, in-person investor meetings, submitting to business grant and business plan competitions, finding great partners, cofounders, and advisors, and even appearing on TV shows like Shark Tank.

Investor Pitch Template

Even if you already have a pitch deck, you need to know your presentation script in case your pitch deck presentation isn’t working or technical glitches are slowing you down.

In this regard, keep in mind that storytelling is everything. In this regard for a winning pitch deck to help you here, take a look at the template created by Silicon Valley legend, Peter Thiel (see it here) that I recently covered. Thiel was the first angel investor in Facebook with a $500K check that turned into more than $1 billion in cash.

Remember to unlock the pitch deck template that is being used by founders around the world to raise millions below.

Your pitch will mostly follow the same flow as a pitch deck. Though you may pass over or add on where it makes sense when pitching live, and for tailoring your pitch to your specific audience this investor pitch template comes in to help.

Introduction

Begin with greeting your audience or investor. Introduce yourself and your company. State your company name, tagline, and any notable website domain name you have.

The Problem

What is the big and urgent problem you are solving?

Your verbal presentation is the chance to expand on your slides with a personal story of your why and explaining it in a way they can personally relate to.

You may also mention the results of any market research, surveys, and interviewing of customers you have done to verify this problem and the willingness to pay for it.

The Solution

How are you solving this problem?

What is your product or solution? Don’t get complicated. You may list 1-3 top features and benefits but stop there.

Market Size

This is one of the most important parts of the investor pitch template. How big is this market and opportunity? What is the industry worth in dollars each year? How many transactions are available as total market share? What is your potential addressable market as a portion of this?

Competition

Who are your major competitors? What about potential competitors? Consider listing any notable facts on funding or growth that will support your forecasts and ask.

Competitive Advantage

Given the competition, what is your competitive advantage in the marketplace? What is the one thing you can excel at and keep doing 10x to 100x better than anyone else?

Product

Provide a quick glimpse of your product and specs. If you have a prototype, this is your chance to show it off.

What traction have you gained so far? This is the part of the investor pitch template that provides social proof and validation from the market.

List off any notable milestones you’ve achieved. If you are already doing business, how much have you been growing weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually?

Business Model

How are you actually making money? What is your model for marketing, selling, and gaining customers and revenues? What are your profit margins?

It is worth mentioning anything that will continue to provide a moat around your business and keep it sustainable and consistent.

You may find interesting the video below where I cover in detail what is a business model.

Financials

If you don’t have existing data from sales to show, then this will be all about forecasting sales, revenues, and profits for the next 1-5 years. Keep it simple. Be able to explain your math.

The Ask

How much are you raising in this round? Which round stage is this for you? What other investors have already signed on or agreed to lead this round?

Use Of Funds

How will you use these funds to multiply your investors’ money? Is it betting on coding a product or finding product fit? Or is it scaling with predictable results by hiring and marketing?

Team

This is probably your most important slide and parts of the investor pitch template. For early-stage startups it is definitely all about who the founding team is.

Just a line or two about each founder is enough. Just use this to highlight your capability, and why they can rely on you.

Advisors

Who are your advisors that can add extra credibility and confidence that may not be conveyed by your founders. Highlight how they round out your experience.

Close

Thank investors for their time. Make your call to action for them to invest. Let them know the best way to get in touch to take it to the next stage.

Q&A

Be sure to leave time for the Q&A. List out your common FAQs, and rebuttals for common objections. Have lines prepared to bring everyone back on track.

Hopefully, you were able to gain some insights with this investor pitch template.
